Pipe Bridge
A roll on roll off skip transfer lorry with a large JCB excavator on the rear, tried to pass under the pipe bridge. The jib section of the JCB impacted with the pipe bridge, damaging the triangular point section of the pipe bridge construction.
As a result of this, the pipe was damaged, causing increased stress to be applied to the structure.
Works were carried out over a weekend to minimise disruption to the site.
Repairs consistent of an onsite welder gaining access to the damaged section using a scissor lift whilst traffic management was in operation. The specialist then cut out the damaged section of pipe and replaced by bolting and welding a replacement section into place.
All works were carried out following the guidance of a structural engineer and signed off by the structural engineer upon completion.
